FIFA To Analyze VAR Decisions In England-Tunisia Match

English fans were frustrated with a lack of action taken when Yassine Meriah (l) contacted Harry Kane.GETTY IMAGES

FIFA will analyze video technology's decision not to award Harry Kane two penalties in England's opening World Cup win over Tunisia, according to Ben Rumsby of the London TELEGRAPH. Amid "outrage on social media about the lack of action taken" when Ferjani Sassi and Yassine Meriah "bundled Kane to the floor" during the match in Volgograd, FIFA confirmed it would examine whether VAR Sandro Ricci "blundered" by not advising Wilmar Roldan to penalize them. It is understood its referees' execs will stage a press conference at some point during Russia 2018 to "run through some of the disputed decisions on key incidents in matches, potentially once the group stage is complete" (TELEGRAPH, 6/19).

BRAZIL FILES COMPLAINT: In London, Martyn Ziegler reported the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) wrote to FIFA’s referees’ commission complaining about the officials’ decisions in the country's 1-1 draw with Switzerland. The Brazilians were "incensed" that the VAR "failed to intervene" when Steven Zuber gave a "slight push" to defender Miranda before heading the equalizer. Brazil also claimed that it should have had a penalty for a foul on striker Gabriel Jesus. FIFA, however, has backed all the interventions of VAR so far in this tournament and said that the video official agreed that in the Brazil incidents the referee had "not made a clear and obvious error" (LONDON TIMES, 6/19).
