Event Notes: ECB Proposes Altered Schedule Due To '19 World Cup

Next season's county cricket schedule "has been altered to fit around" the Int'l Cricket Council Cricket World Cup, which will take place in England from May 30-July 14. To ensure that the domestic 50-over tournament does not clash with the World Cup, the England & Wales Cricket Board is "proposing a change to the domestic structure that would mean the 50-over one-day cup beginning almost a month earlier than this year," around April 18, and finishing before the World Cup starts. The T20 Blast "could start once the World Cup is finished" (LONDON TIMES, 6/19).

Relevent announced an updated schedule of matches for the 2018 Int'l Champions Cup in Europe. Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais will replace La Liga side Sevilla in the tournament. The French side will face Serie A club Inter Milan in Italy on Aug. 4 and travel to London to play Chelsea on Aug. 7. Additionally, Chelsea will play Inter Milan in Nice, France, on July 28 (Relevent).

Eredivisie side Ajax and Serie A side São Paulo will compete in the fifth annual Florida Cup. Universal Orlando Resort and adidas will return as main sponsors of event in '19, which will take place in the second week of January (Florida Cup).

Sydney will host six matches of next year's inaugural Int'l Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League, while Melbourne and Hobart will also be confirmed as venues for the competition. Each fixture in Sydney will be played at its Olympic Park Hockey Centre in March, beginning on March 2, when the Hockeyroos will play the U.S. and the Kookaburras will host Spain (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/19).

The South Korean canoe governing body said Tuesday that it has made joint team proposals to North Korea for this year's Asian Games and the dragon boat world championship. The Korea Canoe Federation added that it is "in talks" with the Int'l Canoe Federation "over co-hosting a future dragon boat world championship with the North" (YONHAP, 6/19).
