Media Notes: Suspended Cricketer's Commentary Not An Issue

Suspended cricketer David Warner’s re-entry to int'l cricket as a short-term commentator for the one-day series against England has not been a "major talking point among the Australian squad." Warner will play a "limited role" in Channel Nine’s coverage of the five-match series, helping for the second game in Cardiff on Saturday, the only one being shown on Nine’s main channel. It is understood Warner will not travel to the U.K. for the game, but will help with coverage from Nine's studios in Sydney (HERALD SUN, 6/11).

The La Liga smartphone app "added a new function that uses geolocation and the smartphone's microphone to determine whether games are being watched in public in a fraudulent manner." The new function, which requires the smartphone user's consent, is included in the latest version of the app. After acquiring permission, the app "captures the binary code of the audio from the microphone" and uses this to detect if the user is watching the game through an illegal broadcast in a public place (EP, 6/11).

Sports data and intelligence company STATS opened its new offices in Limerick, Ireland. Originally announced in October, STATS aims to employ more than 150 full- and part-time staff in Limerick by '20, making it the largest sports technology business in Ireland (STATS).
