AFL Player Nat Fyfe's Beer Investment Pays Off

Nat Fyfe spent A$100,000 to fund the launch of Pirate Life in '15.GETTY IMAGES

Australian Football League side Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe has "plenty to cheers to," according to Sam Edmund of the HERALD SUN. Fyfe has "pocketed" more than A$1M ($766,600) after "striking it rich as a beer investor." Fyfe paid less than A$100,000 in '15 to "help fund the launch of boutique craft beer company" Pirate Life. But Fyfe "hit pay dirt" at the end of last year when the Adelaide-based business was bought by the biggest beer maker in the world, Anheuser-Busch InBev. AB InBev has 500 brands around the world. It is understood Fyfe was "initially cautioned against the investment." In the three years since, Pirate Life has "grown to become one of Australia's fastest-growing brewers." The sale to AB InBev "paved the way" for Pirate Life's new A$15M ($11.5M) brewery and restaurant in Port Adelaide (HERALD SUN, 6/6).
