MCC Unveils Design Plans For Lord's Cricket Ground Redevelopment

Plans for a £50M ($67M) redevelopment of Lord's Cricket Ground were unveiled on Wednesday, including two new stands which will increase capacity by 2,500, according to Molly McElwee of the London TELEGRAPH. The Compton and Edrich stands will be located at the Nursery End of the ground and are part of Marylebone Cricket Club's "master plan" for the 204-year-old venue that included the opening of the £25M ($33.5M) Warner stand last year. The new three-tier stands will push Lord's capacity to more than 30,000 "as well as providing improved wheelchair access, spectator amenities and a walkway between the two." Subject to approval by Westminster City Council later this year, works will begin after next summer's Ashes test and are expected to be completed in '21. Approved by club members last year, the MCC's "master plan" is a £194M ($260.1M) redevelopment program scheduled to continue until '32 (TELEGRAPH, 6/6).
