FIFA Files Criminal Complaint Against Ticket Website Viagogo

FIFA filed a complaint against ticket website Viagogo over the company's "opaque and deceptive" practices, according to the BBC. FIFA warned it would cancel any World Cup tickets identified as having been purchased through the Swiss-based website. It said that it was fighting ticket resales to "prioritise the safety and security of fans." The governing body filed the complaint against Viagogo with the public prosecutor's office in Geneva on Monday following "numerous complaints" (BBC, 6/5). REUTERS Revill & Homewood reported Viagogo did not reply immediately to a request for comment. FIFA said that its website is "the only legitimate place to buy World Cup tickets," which are on sale until July 15 -- the final day of the tournament (REUTERS, 6/5).
