Spanish Football Federation Cuts Cost Of World Cup Trip

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) canceled a €2M ($2.3M) trip to the World Cup, according to Eduardo J. Castelao of EL MUNDO. RFEF President Luis Rubiales said, "It seemed that it would not be possible to cancel it, but after what I said, it has become possible." Rubiales announced two new, less expensive trips. One will be for players' families and RFEF staff to attend Spain's opening game of the World Cup, at a cost of between €100,000 ($117,000) and €120,000 ($141,000). The other trip will bring the Paralympic and women's football teams, as well as sponsors and family members, to Spain's second game. That trip will cost approximately €400,000 ($469,000). Rubiales: "In total, this will mean a savings of €1.5 million ($1.76M)" (EL MUNDO, 6/5).
