Indian Premier League Attracts 45% Increase In Number Of Advertisers

Despite fears during the preseason, there was a "sharp rise" in the number of advertisers during the recently concluded Indian Premier Leaue season compared to last year, according to ASIA SPONSORSHIP NEWS. In '17, there were approximately 90 advertisers for the IPL tournament, compared to around 130 this season -- an increase of nearly 45% -- according to industry sources. New brands such as Burger King, Domino's, online grocer Grofers and online food delivery app Swiggy "entered the IPL fray this year." Publicis Media CEO Basabdatta Chowdhuri said, "This year, IPL had a lot of small and mid-sized advertisers who usually stayed away from the tournament. Some FMCG companies also spent unusually more" (ASIA SPONSORSHIP NEWS, 5/29).
