FIFA "will come under renewed pressure to strip Qatar of the 2022 World Cup after a new watchdog uncovered more evidence of endemic corruption during the bidding process," according to Adam Shergold of the London DAILY MAIL. The Foundation for Sports Integrity, "which will be launched in London on Thursday," said that Qatar's vote victory in '10 was "completely illegitimate" in a new investigation. It claims to have evidence that Qatar "paid millions" to members of FIFA's exec committee as they considered which country would be awarded the tournament. The findings include evidence that Argentine FIFA exec Julio Grondona allegedly received a "mystery payment" of £3.6M into his Swiss bank account. Qatar also allegedly paid a £50M debt owed by the Argentine FA. The Foundation's report said, "The 2018/2022 bidding process was the most blatant example of FIFA's corruption. We believe the 2010 decision cannot last." All parties involved in the bid deny any wrongdoing, but FIFA "will come under increased pressure to properly investigate the Qatar bid" (DAILY MAIL, 5/29).
