Liverpool, Standard Chartered Extend Sponsorship Through '22-23

Liverpool signed a four-year, £160M ($214M) "sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered Bank," according to Oliver Gill of CITY A.M. The agreement is an "extension to Standard Chartered's current sponsorship" of the club, taking the partnership through the '22-23 season. Standard Chartered is a "London-listed lender with 1,000 branches across 60 global markets." While financial terms of the agreement were detailed as "confidential," sources said that the deal was "on par" with Arsenal's recent five-year, £200M -- equivalent to £40M a year -- shirt sponsorship with Emirates. The deal is a £10M ($13.4M)-a-year "increase on Liverpool's previous agreement with Standard Chartered, which was reported to be worth" £30M ($40M)-a-year (CITY A.M., 5/24). In Liverpool, James Pearce reported Standard Chartered "took over from Carlsberg as Liverpool's kit sponsor" in '10 and it is now the "second longest sponsorship deal in the club's history." The two sides had "previously agreed extensions" in '13 and '15. The last deal was "worth around" £30M per year (LIVERPOOL ECHO, 5/24). THE DRUM's John Glenday reported Liverpool's "substantial fan base across Asia, Africa and the Middle East has proven to be an irresistible draw for the bank as it seeks to engage with customers in its core markets" (THE DRUM, 5/24).
