UEFA Announces Istanbul As Host For 2020 Champions League Final

UEFA confirmed that Istanbul will host the 2020 Champions League final, while the Europa League final will be held in Gdansk, Poland, according to Adam McKendry of the BELFAST TELEGRAPH. UEFA announced the decision following its exec committee meeting in Kiev, the host city for this year's CL final between Liverpool and Real Madrid. The Ataturk Olympic Stadium, the venue chosen by UEFA for the '20 showpiece, "witnessed one of the greatest ever Champions League finals 13 years ago." Steven Gerrard "inspired" Liverpool's comeback from 3-0 down at halftime against AC Milan to "eventually prevail on penalties." The stadium holds "just over" 76,000. The Europa League final will be held at the Stadion Energa in Poland, the home of Lechia Gdansk and a host venue during Euro 2012, which holds 41,620. Other '20 final venues include the Generali Arena in Vienna, which will hold the Women's Champions League final, and the Estadio do Dragao in Porto, which will play host to the Super Cup (BELFAST TELEGRAPH, 5/24).
