RFEF Hires Marisa González; Huesca Earns Historic Promotion

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) signed Marisa González, the former cabinet head for former Community of Madrid President Cristina Cifuentes, as its director of communication, according to Esther Sánchez of EL PAÍS. González has 30 years of experience as a journalist, "all in politics" (EL PAÍS, 5/22). In Madrid, Joaquín Maroto reported González replaces Antonio Bustillo, who was earning a salary of more than €80,000 ($94,300) (AS, 5/22). The EFE reported new RFEF President Luis Rubiales named Antonio Suárez the organization's VP. Suárez will "coordinate the RFEF's relations with professional clubs" (EFE, 5/22). In Madrid, Ulises Sánchez-Flor reported Rubiales renewed Spanish national team coach Julen Lopetegui's contract through Euro 2020. Rubiales said that he "reached the agreement in five minutes" (EL CONFIDENCIAL, 5/22).

'TIME TO CELEBRATE': The AP reported Spanish club Huesca "will play in La Liga for the first time in the club's history next season." The club has been in Spain's second division since '15 (AP, 5/22). In Madrid, Samuel Galicia reported Huesca's El Alcoraz stadium, which seats 5,500, "will be the smallest of any team" competing in the top leagues in Spain, England, Italy, France and Germany (MARCA, 5/22).
