Facility Notes: Heart Of Midlothian Fans Fulfill £3M Pledge To Club

Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian fans fulfilled a £3M ($4M) pledge to help fund the club's new main stand. Foundation of Hearts gave a final contribution to Owner Ann Budge on Tuesday, completing its contribution to the £15M ($20.1M) Tynecastle overhaul. The club officially opened the stand in Nov. '17 after "briefly decanting to Murrayfield while construction work took place." Budge "heaped" praise on "incredible" supporter efforts in aiding the redevelopment as she reiterated her goal of making Hearts the biggest fan-owned club in the U.K. within the next two years (Scotland DAILY RECORD, 5/22).

FIA President Jean Todt said that Formula 1 drivers will be consulted about the layout of a U.S. Grand Prix in Miami, a race that is believed to be on track for Oct. '19. Todt said that criticism this early in the process "is jumping the gun." Todt said, "We're talking about a race that doesn't exist yet. Talks are currently underway with the rights holder, and after that, we will look at the safety aspect. The drivers will then have the opportunity to contribute their ideas" (AUTOWEEK, 5/21).

Scarlets Rugby said that it was "forced to cancel training" following its Pro14 semifinal win on Glasgow's artificial surface, with players reporting burns and blisters. Head coach Wayne Pivac was "left counting the cost" of the 28-13 win, with some players "still not risked at training" on Tuesday after taking Monday off and captain John Barclay "ruled out following surgery on a ruptured achilles tendon." Pivac described the pitch as "very bad" (London GUARDIAN, 5/22).
