GIANLUIGI BUFFON announced his 17-year career as a Juventus player will "come to an end." Buffon, 40, leaves the club after captaining it to its seventh successive Serie A title and ninth overall. Asked what the future holds, Buffon said that he has a number of offers "on the pitch and outside the pitch" (London TELEGRAPH, 5/17). ... SIMONA DE SILVESTRO declared Nissan's "bombshell decision" to quit Supercars "will not affect her negotiations to continue as the sport's only full-time female driver." In her first interview since Nissan announced it would not renew its deal to stay with Kelly Racing next year, De Silvestro revealed she "would not walk out on the team" following the Japanese company's "shock move." De Silvestro will be a free agent at the end of the year (Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH, 5/17).
