Franchise Notes: Mercedes Reveals Details Of '19 Formula E Entry

Mercedes "revealed the first details" of its Formula E entry for '19, which will receive support from its Formula 1 team. The German manufacturer will quit the German Touring Car (DTM) championship at the end of '18 to "focus on the all-electric single-seater series," which it will enter at the start of the '19-20 season. Mercedes will develop its Formula E powertrain at its Brixworth engine base. It will "also receive support from its F1 operation in Brackley, and its trackside operations will be run by longtime factory partner HWA," which is entering Formula E as a Venturi customer team next season (MOTORSPORT, 5/17).

Premier League side Bournemouth was ordered by the Professional Football Compensation Committee to pay an initial £425,000 ($574,000) to League One side Blackburn Rovers, which will be promoted to the League Championship for the '18-19 season, for the transfer of winger Connor Mahoney, the club said. The south coast team signed Mahoney from Blackburn last July after the 21-year-old’s contract at Ewood Park ended, "but the clubs failed to reach an agreement over the transfer fee" (REUTERS, 5/17).

Portuguese side Porto partnered with performance analytics brand Catapult Sports to monitor and improve athlete performance. The club, which recently won its 28th Primeira Liga championship, is using Catapult technology to quantify the performance of players across its first team and "B" team squads (Catapult).

Premiership Rugby club Gloucester "offered to cover the costs of tattoo repairs for fans who have the club's former crest inked on them." The club unveiled a new badge on Tuesday. Its previous badge was used for 10 years, "with many of the more hardcore Kingsholm Stadium regulars choosing to have it emblazoned on them to prove their undying support" (London TELEGRAPH, 5/16).
