Yorkshire Cricket To Broadcast Championship Match Against Surrey

Yorkshire County Cricket Club will become the first county to produce its "own live footage of championship cricket" when it broadcasts its match against Surrey, which features Indian national cricket team captain Virat Kohli, at Scarborough next month, according to Nick Hoult of the London TELEGRAPH. It could be the start of a "digital revolution" for county cricket as Yorkshire looks to "fight back" against the England & Wales Cricket Board’s controversial "Hundred" competition. Counties believe under the terms of the new broadcasting deal they will be able to "run coverage online of matches in their own Twenty20 competition" to help compete with the ECB's new tournament in two years. Yorkshire will employ cameramen to capture the action of its championship match against Surrey, from June 25, and "will hope Kohli’s presence will bring in big audience figures online from India." Commentary will be provided by syncing the online BBC radio coverage (TELEGRAPH, 5/12).
