Players' Union Slams Twin Reviews Into Cricket Australia

The Australian Cricketers' Association slammed Cricket Australia's "twin reviews into the game, comparing the inquiries to the so-called independent report commissioned by disgraced wealth giant AMP," according to Andrew Wu of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. ACA President Greg Dyer "issued a damning statement on Thursday" questioning the independence of the governing body's reviews following the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa. CA appointed The Ethics Centre to investigate if any wider cultural, organizational and governance issues within Jolimont "were linked to the tumult in South Africa." Dyer: "Recent disclosures to the banking royal commission indicate that a review which is commissioned and paid for by a board, with terms of reference set by that board and a reporting process that has a closed loop back to the same board, will be viewed with cynicism. The review's success and its broad acceptance as being truly independent will therefore be conditional on absolute transparency." Dyer's comments come after it was revealed CA Dir Michelle Tredenick is also a board member of The Ethics Centre but "recused herself from discussions regarding the selection of the independent reviewer" (SMH, 5/10).
