Media Notes: Rai Keeps Domestic TV Rights To Coppa Italia

Rai kept its domestic TV rights to the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana for the next three years. The company won the auction for the '18-21 Coppa rights with a bid of €35.5M ($42.1M) -- 60% more than what the state broadcaster paid previously and €2.5M ($3M) "greater than Mediaset's offer." However, there is "still no news on the TV rights for Serie A" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 5/7).

The Ladies European Tour extended its deal with Sky Sports through '19, taking the partnership into its 20th year. As part of the deal, Sky Sports will broadcast the 2019 Solheim Cup from Gleneagles, with the global coverage of the event to be produced by European Tour Productions (LET).

SBS will broadcast a free Australian exclusive daily live Twitter show during each matchday of the 2018 FIFA World Cup from Russia. Hosted by Lucy Zelic, along with special guests, #WorldGameLive will deliver exclusive content, a preview of the night's matches, analysis, Q&A's and also cast a spotlight on the social media reaction to the tournament (SBS).

Slovak public broadcaster RTVS introduced an HbbTV service to cover the Ice Hockey World Championship, which is currently taking place in Denmark. RTVS said that the service is being produced in cooperation with national transmission company Towercom. It "includes for the first time such features as time-shift," which allows viewers to play back programs for up to 24 hours, and a seven-day archive (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 5/7).

Web streaming platform mycujoo will broadcast more than 1,150 hours of Indonesian FA (PSSI) league and national teams over the next three years. The PSSI is the "latest of the Asian Football Confederation's national associations to sign up to the platform that was introduced by the confederation to help members boost their media presence and capabilities" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 5/8).
