League Notes: Sharks CEO Dismisses Reports Of Ditching Super Rugby

Super Rugby side Sharks CEO Gary Teichmann dismissed reports of South African sides "ditching" Super Rugby for the Pro14. The Durban-based Sharks were named as the first side said to be joining Pro14 for '19-20, according to reports, and the Lions and Stormers "would then follow suit for the next season." Teichmann said, "No discussions have been held in terms of looking at Pro14. I don't know where that has come from" (STUFF, 5/8).

An Australian Institute of Sport staff overhaul will "impact more than 40 jobs in a radical change at the Bruce campus, signalling major reform to reshape institute's future and strategy for success." The move "could also prompt wider changes" at the AIS, including restarting negotiations for the ACT government's bid to buy Canberra Stadium and AIS assets if the institute downsizes its facilities (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 5/8).

Williams Formula 1 failed on Tuesday in a bid to overturn a three-place grid penalty imposed on Russian Sergey Sirotkin for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix. The team "sought a review of five incidents" at the April 29 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, "arguing that significant and relevant new elements had emerged." The stewards unanimously rejected that, however (REUTERS, 5/8).
