Franchise Notes: Salford City To Field Women's Team Next Season

Salford City, the football club owned by ex-ManU players Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and England Lionesses Manager Phil Neville, "will have a women's team from next season." The team will be known as the Salford City Lionesses, "but it is not yet clear" in which division it will play (BBC, 5/7).

Cardiff City and the local council "are in talks to have an official celebration" after the Bluebirds' promotion to the Premier League. Cardiff will return to English football's top flight after a four-year absence. Club CEO Ken Choo is hoping fans can "savour it all over again with a celebration in the city" on Sunday (BBC, 5/7).

Renault Sport Formula 1 Managing Dir Cyril Abiteboul insisted Renault is not "against continuing its engine supply deal with Red Bull Racing next year, and to prove its good faith," the manufacturer extended the team's engine decision deadline by two weeks. Abiteboul: "After 12 years together marked by many wins, we would be ready to continue with them. The number one issue is timing. We won't be able to guarantee the availability of a Renault engine for 2019 beyond May 31. We were nice, we gave them two extra weeks" (F1i, 5/7).
