Man City's Average Transfer Value Reaches Record £55M

CIES Football Observatory
Man City "topped the charts once again," this time as the average transfer value of its first team reached a record-high of £55M ($74.5M), according to Jonathan Spencer of the London DAILY MAIL. The CIES Football Observatory published the average transfer value of teams in the top five divisions across Europe -- England, Spain, France, Italy and Germany. Man City has ranked "far ahead" of Barcelona and Tottenham, which came in second and third, respectively. Barcelona came in at £48.8M ($66M) and Tottenham at £45.2M ($61.3M). The Premier League's economic power, performance levels, long-term contract duration and "youthfulness" are the "key criteria" in explaining Man City's "dominant position." Seven Man City players have a transfer value of more than £88M ($119.3M), including Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and Ederson (DAILY MAIL, 5/7).
