Riot Games, MTV To Debut Esports, Music Festival In Singapore

League of Legends developer Riot Games announced a partnership with MTV to debut Hyperplay, an esports and music festival taking place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, according to Thiemo Bräutigam of THE ESPORTS OBSERVER. The festival will be livestreamed and TV broadcast across Southeast Asia. Hyperplay will feature a League of Legends ASEAN tournament with national teams from 10 ASEAN countries. The esports tournament will "share the stage" with MTV Spotlight, hosting music performances by int'l, regional and local artists, and will be edited into a 60-minute special, which will premiere on Aug. 21 on MTV in Southeast Asia (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 4/13).

'TWITCH DAY': THE ESPORTS OBSERVER's Trent Murray reported the Overwatch League's integration with its exclusive streaming platform, Twitch, included a "full day of celebration." Twitch representatives were on site at the Blizzard Arena on Saturday "handing out free Twitch merchandise" (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 4/13).

FIFA 18 GLOBAL SERIES: Murray also reported London-based tournament organizer Gfinity announced a partnership on Friday with the FIFA 18 U.S. Spring Cup. The tournament, along with offering a $30,000 prize pool, will serve as a U.S. qualifier for EA Sports' FIFA 18 Global Series (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 4/13).
