Event Notes: Big Screens At Wembley To Be Used To Explain VAR

The FA hopes to make the VAR process clearer for the FA Cup semifinals at Wembley later this month by "displaying on the stadium screens the type of decision being reviewed" when VAR is used during the two games. One of the major complaints during the trialing of VAR so far this season in the FA Cup "has been the failure to inform the fans in the stadium of the nature of the review taking place" (London TELEGRAPH, 4/11).

Rome could host the Formula E race for another three years if "the first edition in the EUR suburb on Saturday is a success." The speculation comes after Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag said that "there is already a date for an E-prix in Rome next year, but there is still no agreement." This will depend on "how the the event goes this year" (ANSA, 4/12).

The French Professional Football League (LFP) and Kaisa Culture Sports & Tourism Group announced a six-year contract that will see Shenzhen, China, host the next two Trophée des Champions. This year's edition will take place on Aug. 4 at Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre, run by Kaisa Culture Sports & Tourism Group (LFP).

The "political controversy" around the Madrid Open could push the Masters 1000 event to leave Madrid "after the tournament's deal with the city expires in '21." The "disagreement began a year ago over suspected irregularities in the financing of the tournament." Madrid Open CEO Gerard Tsobanian said, "We like Madrid and we will negotiate to stay after '21. We will fight to stay, because if not, we will have to prepare for the future in another venue and we do not want to do this" (AS, 4/12).
