FA Invests Record £127M Into Game After Profits Doubled In '16-17

The FA invested a record £127M into the game as its profits "more than doubled" in '16-17, according to the BBC. The record investment was a £2M increase on the previous year. After-tax profits in '16-17 rose to £16M from £7M, according to financial results for the year ending July 31, 2017. Turnover was down to £351M from £370M -- "mainly due to the lack of a major men's senior tournament" -- while the net debt fell from £174M to £150M. FA CEO Martin Glenn said that those were "strong financial figures." Profits were helped by sponsorship deals and events at Wembley Stadium in addition to int'l matches and finals (BBC, 3/21). SKY SPORTS reported Glenn said, "The FA is For All and, as a not-for-profit organization, our core focus is to develop the national game and invest in the future" (SKY SPORTS, 3/21).
