Roland Garros Tournament Dir Guy Forget announced the singles champions at this year's French Open will receive €2.2M ($2.7M), up €100,000 ($123,110) from '17, according to the AFP. The overall prize money will increase by around 10%, rising from €36M last year to €39.2M ($48.4M). Forget added that money for qualifying and first-round losers "would again increase," with €40,000 ($49,240) for players who fall in the opening round -- €5,000 ($6,155) more than '17. Despite the changes, the French Open "still offers less prize money than other Grand Slam tournaments," after the Australian Open in January also increased prize money by 10%. The 2018 French Open will run from May 27-June 10 in Paris (AFP, 3/20).
LAVER CUP CHANGES: In London, Dan Gibbs reported Roger Federer revealed that the Laver Cup's format, which currently only includes men, could "change next year" with the inclusion of women. Federer said, "Down the road, I'm totally open to anything. I've heard already from women players. They would love to do it as well." Chicago will host the second edition of the Laver Cup from Sept. 21-23 (EXPRESS, 3/20).
