Spanish Treasury Rejects Cristiano Ronaldo's Cash Offer

The Spanish Treasury reportedly rejected an "unsatisfactory" offer from Cristiano Ronaldo.GETTY IMAGES

The case between the Spanish Treasury and Cristiano Ronaldo "looked like it could be closed within the coming days," according to MARCA. El Mundo reported Ronaldo "agreed to pay the Treasury an amount that it feels is fair based on the non-taxation of his image rights, in order to ensure he would serve no prison time." However, Europa Press reported a meeting in the past few months resulted in an "unsatisfactory" offer of €4M-€5M ($4.9M-$6.2M), which was rejected by the Treasury. The Prosecutor's Office charged Ronaldo with fraud of €14.7M ($18.1M) from '11-14, with the Treasury claiming that he should "currently be serving a prison sentence due to four separate incidents" (MARCA, 3/19).
