SPFL Clubs In Conflict As Hibernian Looks To Block Doncaster's Appointment

Angry Scottish Professional Football League execs "have exposed a desperate plot to change the balance of power in the ongoing war" between the Scottish FA and the SPFL, according to Gordon Waddell of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Scottish Premiership side Hibernian Chair Rod Petrie's club was reportedly "behind the bid to subvert board changes at the top of the game." A day of "back-door dealing was sparked" by Partick Thistle Managing Dir Ian Maxwell resigning his spot on the main SFA board to pursue his bid to replace Stewart Regan as CEO. The SPFL "eventually put forward" CEO Neil Doncaster to replace Maxwell. An email was reportedly sent by SPFL Chair Murdoch MacLennan to members revealing a "clandestine bid to stop Doncaster even being allowed to vote." It is "believed the rebellion ended up with only four signatories, despite attempts by Hibs to whip up support from Premiership clubs." Hibernian -- which wanted Petrie’s ally, Aberdeen CEO Duncan Fraser, promoted from the Professional Game Board instead of Doncaster -- was supported by the Dons, Ross County and Kilmarnock (DAILY RECORD, 3/18).
