Franchise Notes: Kidney Returns To Coaching With London Irish

Declan Kidney coached Ireland to a Six Nations Grand Slam in '09.GETTY IMAGES

Declan Kidney, who led Ireland to its Six Nations Grand Slam in '09, will "make a shock return to top-flight coaching as part of major overhaul" at Premiership Rugby side London Irish. Kidney will be joined by former Pro14 club Ulster Dir of Rugby Les Kiss in a "new-look coaching team, which is expected to be unveiled next week." It is "not yet clear how the appointments affect the position of Nick Kennedy," the club’s director of rugby, who remains contracted to the club. It is understood, however, that as part of the overhaul, Brendan Venter, the former London Irish player-coach and Saracens director of rugby who was hired in '16 as technical director, will leave the club (London TELEGRAPH, 3/7).

Bundesliga side Hamburg announced its "initial entry into esports" by having two FIFA player representatives in the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL). The club plans to use FIFA as a "means to explore the market." The club said that an official entry is "not planned at this time" (THE ESPORTS OBSERVER, 3/8).
