Media Notes: Fox Improves Funding Offer In Sky Takeover Bid

Sky News would be "guaranteed funding for at least 10 years under an improved offer of concessions" from 21st Century Fox in its bid to secure full control of Sky. Fox proposed the commitment in a letter to the Competition & Markets Authority, which is in the "late stages of an investigation" of the £11.7B ($16.4B) deal into "whether it hands too much sway over the media landscape to the Murdoch family." The "new remedies offer is an improvement on a previous proposal of five years of guaranteed funding for Sky News," which is understood to lose around £40M ($56M) per year (London TELEGRAPH, 2/20).

BeIN Media is "planning to dedicate six TV channels to its comprehensive, multilingual coverage" of this year's FIFA World Cup across the Middle East and North Africa. Every match from the tournament in Russia will be broadcast on the pay-TV platform, with commentary in Arabic (on beIN Sports Max 2), English (beIN Sports Max 3) and French (beIN Sports Max 4). The games will also be broadcast in Ultra HD on the beIN 4K channel (RAPID TV NEWS, 2/20).
