NRL Side Brisbane Broncos Installs Sleep Center For Players

National Rugby League side Brisbane Broncos plans to be the "Sleeping Giants" of the league, "with Queensland's flagship club turning to a high-performance tool" used by ManU to help break its title drought, according to Peter Badel of the Brisbane COURIER-MAIL. Brisbane is the first club in NRL history to install a "state-of-the-art" sleep center, emulating sporting teams such as the NFL Seattle Seahawks and ManU. At a cost of around A$25,000 ($19,725), Brisbane built a "dedicated sleep wing" inside its new A$27M ($21.3M) training center designed to give Broncos players the "ultimate edge in recovery and performance." The club joined forces with performance-bedding pioneer BedGear, which helped the Australian national rugby team last year in its victorious World Cup campaign. Broncos High-Performance Manager Jeremy Hickmans said that the sleep wing was set up following studies of global sporting outfits such as the NBA Boston Celtics, MLB Boston Red Sox and EPL teams (COURIER-MAIL, 2/20).
