Spanish Basketball League, Players' Association Break Off CBA Talks

The Spanish Basketball League (ACB) and the players' association (ABP) "broke off negotiations to renew the collective bargaining agreement after a five-hour meeting" at the HQ of Spain's Superior Sports Council (CSD), according to MUNDO DEPORTIVO. This "could provoke a player strike during the Copa del Rey." ACB Secretary General Esther Queraltó said, "Unfortunately we have broken off the negotiations because despite the effort made to address the conditions of the ABP, it has not been possible to reach an agreement about the social fund. .. We hope that they separate the labor conflict from the competition." The Copa del Rey is scheduled to take place from Feb. 15-18 (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 2/8). In Madrid, Darío Ojeda reported ABP President Alfonso Reyes said, "The strike is scheduled for the 14th. With this, we are following the wishes of all the players, not just the Spanish players" (EL CONFIDENCIAL, 2/8).
