Marketplace Roundup: Schalke 04 Partners With ORCA Enviro Systems

Bundesliga side Schalke 04 partnered with ORCA Enviro Systems, an Australian company with operations across North America, Europe and the Middle East producing machinery and solutions for the environmentally-friendly disposal of food waste. The contract runs for three years until '21 (Schalke 04).

La Liga side Real Sociedad confirmed it will not renew its kit deal with adidas, which will be replaced by Macron. The deal with the Italian brand will run for three years. Adidas had been Real Sociedad's kit partner since '14 (EL DIARIO VASCO, 1/25).

Mercedes-Benz partnered with the Wheelchair Basketball World Championship, which will take place from Aug. 16-26 at Hamburg, Germany's Inselpark. Twenty-eight teams with around 600 team members will compete in the event (Daimler).

The Kenyan government is appealing to SportPesa to "reconsider its decision of pulling out of local sports sponsorships." Ministry of Sports & Heritage Principal Secretary Peter Kaberia said that the government is "willing to listen to the betting firms to try and come up with an amicable solution." The gaming companies are currently "up in arms" following the government's proposed 35% tax on all betting revenues (GOAL, 1/27).

Football fans "love a stylish new shirt," so it is "no surprise" that Swedish club AIK's website crashed after it released its brand new all-black effort this week. The kit is all black; from the color of the sponsor, to the badge and the kit maker, "there is not a shade of light on there." The black shirt is "already sold out" on the club's website (London DAILY MAIL, 1/27).
