Event Notes: Liverpool Fans Express Outrage Over CL Ticket Prices

Liverpool fans have "expressed their outrage" at Champions League ticket prices after it was revealed they will have to "shell out" almost £70 ($97.93) to see their side play at Porto next month. Reds fans are "furious at the news," following an announcement from Porto that its home fans will be charged "as little as" €18 ($25.18). Liverpool fan group Spirit of Shankly "promised to investigate the matter further with both the clubs and UEFA" (London DAILY MAIL, 1/23).

Cricket Australia and its players "may soon be at loggerheads about the future expansion of the Big Bash League as the crowds take a sharp decline and TV ratings show the first signs of viewer fatigue." This summer has seen an overall average decline in crowds of around 12% and a "slight dip" in TV ratings. The crowd drop has been "particularly harsh" on three teams: the Hobart Hurricanes, Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars, which have all seen a decline of more than 20% (HERALD SUN, 1/22).

Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana and St. Lucia have been confirmed as the venues for the Int'l Cricket Council Women's World Twenty20. The tournament, which will take place in November, will be hosted by defending champion the West Indies (SKY SPORTS, 1/22).

A large snowfall in Tignes, France, forced the complete cancellation of the fifth World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup, which was scheduled to run from Wednesday through Friday. The Tignes World Cup was set to feature the first speed races in this season's circuit (IPC).
