League Notes: F1 To Introduce Minimum Driver Weight In '19
FIA is finalizing plans for a minimum Formula 1 driver weight in '19 to "ensure that heavier drivers" are no longer penalized. A minimum of 80kg "will be established for the driver and his seat, including specially marked ballast that will sit under it," while the overall car/driver weight will rise a further 6kg to 740kg. The idea emerged from the last F1 Strategy Group meeting, "and after discussions at the Technical Working Group, the Strategy Group was updated on progress at last week’s gathering" (MOTORSPORT, 1/20).
Not "disregarding the initial support given by Pakistan," Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO Shafiq Stanikzai said that the BCCI "has played a bigger role in the rapid rise of the game in the strife-torn nation." Afghanistan cricketers "trained a lot in Pakistan in their formative years and some of them even picked up the sport in refugee camps on the other side of the border." Stanikzai said, "BCCI’s role has really been immense. Since we moved to India, the team has done well. The conditions in India are suiting the team quite well. The support we receive from BCCI has been instrumental" (PTI, 1/21).
