Pay-TV Channel Premier Sports Set To Broadcast Pro14 From Next Season

Pay-TV channel Premier Sports looks set to "come on board" as broadcaster of the Pro14 from next season "as Sky Sports' involvement comes to an end," according to Simon Thomas of WALES ONLINE. A "new name to many rugby fans," Premier is "likely to be joined in covering the tournament" in the U.K. by the BBC, which would continue to show live matches in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland via BBC Wales, S4C, BBC Alba and BBC NI. Sky tendered a bid to retain the TV rights for the U.K. and Ireland, which it has held since '14, but it was outbid for the Irish broadcasting rights by eir Sport, which will take over from next season. Premier Sports, operated by Luxembourg-registered Premier Media, is a subscription sports channel which has been running since '09. Customers will have to pay £9.99 ($13.78) per month to subscribe (WALES ONLINE, 1/15).
