The Court of Arbitration for Sport said on Tuesday that it has registered 42 appeals by Russian athletes "seeking to overturn" IOC penalties against them linked to doping violations at the Sochi 2014 Olympics. The Lausanne-based court said in a statement that a combined hearing in their cases is "likely in the week of Jan. 22 and a final decision before the end of the month" (REUTERS, 1/9).
The organizing committee for the 2018 Winter Olympics said Tuesday that it opened the main media working space in PyeongChang. The Main Press Centre is located in the Alpensia Resort in PyeongChang near venues for ski events. Around 3,000 journalists from 58 countries are set to visit the MPC, along with 270 South Korean reporters from 68 local media, the POCOG said (YONHAP, 1/9).
Bahrain announced plans to hold a Baby Olympics for "athletes" as young as two. The event, known as the Bahrain Baby Games, will take place in April. According to a Bahrain Olympic Committee press release, competitors "will be aged between two and four and will compete in five different sports" -- athletics, gymnastics, football, basketball and weightlifting (INSIDE THE GAMES, 1/8).
