UK Anti-Doping Refusing To Release Team Sky, British Cycling 'Jiffy Bag' Letters

UK Anti-Doping "refused to release letters" it sent to Team Sky and British Cycling after the conclusion of its “Jiffy bag” investigation despite requests made under the Freedom of Information Act, according to Martyn Ziegler of the LONDON TIMES. The organization, which is publicly funded, "imposed an exemption on the letters being released," saying that to do so could make UKAD "liable to legal action and was not in the public interest." Last month, UKAD announced Bradley Wiggins and Team Sky would not face any charges, saying that its investigation was unable to “definitively confirm” the contents of a package delivered to the rider in June '11. A response to the Freedom of Information request stated, "Ukad would likely become engaged in legal disputes (eg in respect of breaches of confidence) that would divert Ukad's limited resources (financial and labour) towards legal matters unrelated to its core functions" (LONDON TIMES, 12/21).
