FA Adds Senior Position To Address Diversity Concerns At St. George's Park

A senior position will be created by the FA to "tackle concerns about a lack of diversity" at its national football center in St. George’s Park, according to Martyn Ziegler of the LONDON TIMES. The FA is planning to appoint two "heads of diversity and inclusion," one based at St. George’s Park in Burton upon Trent and the other at Wembley. The proposals "form part of the cultural review" of the organization that was commissioned after Chelsea player Eni Aluko "was found to have been the subject of a racist remark" made by former England women's Manager Mark Sampson. The move follows "stinging criticism" of St. George’s Park, in particular, from Heather Rabbatts, who stepped down as an FA board member and chair of its Inclusion Advisory Board in July (LONDON TIMES, 12/21).

CASE CLOSED: The PA reported ManU Manager José Mourinho "will not face any disciplinary action" from the FA for his comments before the recent Manchester derby "but has once more been warned" about his future behavior. The FA "did not specify which pre-match remarks it was investigating" but it is understood to have "been concerned" by Mourinho's suggestion that Man City players make "tactical fouls" to break up opponent’s attacks. It was also revealed that "no action would be taken against the clubs for the altercation that took place after the match." Man City’s celebrations "are alleged to have sparked a row involving several players and staff from both teams" in the corridor outside the dressing rooms (PA, 12/21).
