League Championship Side Millwall Considering Move Away From The Den

League Championship side Millwall Chair John Berylson is giving "full consideration" to moving the club away from Lewisham, according to the BBC. The club is involved in a "long-running dispute with the local council over a compulsory purchase order" for land around The Den. Berylson said, "We have taken steps to investigate alternative sites. It will be extremely difficult to see a long-term future in a borough where our local authority is unhelpful and hostile to us." Lewisham Council abandoned its CPO in January but Berylson believes there are "clear indications" that the council intends to revisit its plans (BBC, 12/13). In London, Giuseppe Muro reported club CEO Steve Kavanagh previously said that Millwall "could move to Kent." Berylson said, "While I should emphasize this is emphatically not our preferred option, we are obliged to give this our full consideration." Lewisham Council on Wednesday said, "We are proud Millwall have called Lewisham home since 1910 and want them to stay here for generations to come" (EVENING STANDARD, 12/13).
