League Notes: UCI President Vows To Tackle Motorized Doping, TUEs

Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) President David Lappartient promised to "intensify testing" against motorized doping and to seek revisions to the Therapeutic Use Exemption protocols that fueled "the Bradley Wiggins affair" and UK Anti-Doping’s "Jiffy bag" investigation. He said, "I worry that motors have been used. I have no proof but it’s not impossible. Now I want to be sure that we deliver a sport without doping and without motors. That’s the job of the UCI, to guarantee credibility" (LONDON TIMES, 12/8).

The NBA announced its plan to launch The NBA Academy Latin America, an elite basketball training center in Mexico City for the top male and female prospects from throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South America. It is scheduled to open this winter (NBA).

The "big eight" Canberra sports "have rallied together to help launch a program to address the rising costs of junior registration fees" in a bid to fund 100 scholarships for children from vulnerable families. Junior registrations for teenagers range from A$150 ($113) to A$350 ($263) depending on which sport they play (CANBERRA TIMES, 12/8).
