NBA Prepping For Next Int'l Games, But Silver Acknowledges In-Season Trips Are "Tough"

The NBA will stage two regular-season games in Mexico City next week, as the Brooklyn Nets will play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Dec. 7 and the Miami Heat on Dec. 9, but Commissioner Adam Silver acknowledged it is "tough" to play more in-season games due to travel considerations. Silver said, "We've spent so much time on preventing four games out of five nights completely, dramatically limiting the number of back-to-backs. If they travel internationally, they need rest when they get there and they need rest when they get back, because we know there's a correlation between fatigue and injury." He said that it is "nice" to play games in markets like Mexico City and London, as it serves as an "experiment to sort of see the market and if it creates a lot of interest there." He added that there needs to be a way for the league to examine "how we can look at the schedule in different ways." Silver: "Should we be playing an 82-game schedule here, should we be building international tournaments, things like that" ("Wizards-76ers," NBC Sports Philadelphia, 11/29).
