Event Notes: World Sailing Launches Esports Competition For Mobile Game Virtual Regatta

World Sailing launched the eSailing World Championships. Next year, gamers can play mobile sailing game Virtual Regatta, accumulate points, qualify for playoffs and "make it to the finals at the eSWC." Virtual Regatta has more than 1 million players, and as a mobile game, "has a low barrier to entry." This "appears to be another example of using the term esports for marketing purposes" (ESPORTS OBSERVER, 11/20).

The Scottish Professional Football League defended allowing Heart of Midlothian until the morning of Sunday's game against Partick Thistle to "receive a safety certificate for Tynecastle." An SPFL spokesperson said, "We give every possible opportunity for matches to proceed at their scheduled time. That applies in cases of inclement weather, fogbound pitches, or, in this situation, to enable building works to be completed" (BBC, 11/20).
