Russian Olympic weightlifter RUSLAN ALBEGOV has been suspended for having "potentially violated anti-doping rules," the Int'l Weightlifting Federation said. The IWF said that Albegov, who won Bronze at the 2012 London Games in the men’s +105 kg event, was provisionally suspended for “use or attempted use by an athlete of a prohibited substance or a prohibited method,” without providing further detail (REUTERS, 11/13). ... Cricketer SAEED AJMAL will retire from all forms of cricket after the end of the national T20 tournament in Pakistan. After being banned by the Int'l Cricket Council for an "illegal bowling action," he underwent a corrective program with SAQLAIN MUSHTAQ, but could not "recreate the magic of old, and returned with listless performances" in the 2015 World Cup. His last int'l game was a T20I against Pakistan in '15 (SPORTSKEEDA, 11/13). ... Bet365 Founder DENISE COATES was paid almost £200M by the gambling company in the last financial year, "making her one of the best-paid company bosses in Britain." Coates, 50, started Bet365 in a Portakabin in a Stoke car park 17 years ago. She runs the company with her brother, JOHN, and owns "just over" a 50% stake in the business (LONDON TIMES, 11/13). ... Former British judo athlete JAMIE MACDONALD died from cancer, aged 26. Welshman MacDonald was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in '15, "just one year after competing at the Commonwealth Games" (London INDEPENDENT, 11/13). ... TIM GUDGIN, formerly the voice of BBC TV's Saturday tea-time football results, died, aged 87. Gudgin retired in '11, "a week before his 82nd birthday, to end a career lasting more than 60 years" (BBC, 11/13). ... BBC pundit and former England int’l footballer TREVOR SINCLAIR was arrested “on suspicion of drink-driving, common assault and criminal damage.” The 44-year-old was detained after a woman was hit by a car, “suffering what were said to be minor injuries” (London TELEGRAPH, 11/13).
