Event Notes: Silverstone Will Continue To Host British MotoGP Through '20

Silverstone will continue to host the British motorcycle grand prix until '20 "after announcing a contract extension on Saturday." MotoGP rights holder Dorna said in a statement that the deal "secured the immediate future of the British round after the termination of an agreement with the unbuilt Circuit of Wales." Silverstone has hosted MotoGP since '10, most recently as part of an agreement with the Circuit of Wales that secured a five-year deal with Dorna from '15-19 but "failed to get the necessary funding" (REUTERS, 11/11).

Pakistan will host the West Indies in a three-match Twenty20 series in March and the Caribbean side "will be playing in the South Asian country every year for the next five years," the Pakistan Cricket Board said. The West Indies will also host a reciprocal series against Pakistan, probably in the U.S., as part of the agreement. A third team will also play the U.S. series. The first series will be held from March 29-April 1 in Pakistan, but "venues are still to be determined" (REUTERS, 11/11).

Whatever the future holds for the Int'l Rules series between Australia and Ireland, the two teams have "ruled out any hint of a return to the thuggery which has marred previous Test matches." Ireland coach Joe Kernan is adamant his players will play within the rules despite accusations from Australia, that Ireland, in the words of Australian goalkeeper Brendan Goddard "are very good at the niggling." Kernan: "The brawling is 100% over. Both organizations laid down the law, they didn't want that any more" (SUNDAY TIMES, 11/12).
