League Notes: AFL To Rule On Transgender Player's Bid To Enter AFLW

The Australian Football League is set to make a "historic ruling" on whether a transgender player can take part in the AFL Women’s competition. Former national men’s handball player Hannah Mouncey was nominated for Wednesday’s draft and is "waiting to find out whether she will be eligible to be recruited" (AAP, 10/16).

South Africa's T20 Global League is "most likely to be replaced" by the T20 Domestic League, which was postponed earlier this month. The six-team franchise competition, scheduled to commence in March, "could be started four months before if the South African cricket board approves for the same." The decision by the South African cricket board came after South Africa's T20 Global League was postponed until next year (ANI, 10/14).

Institute of National Anti-Doping Agencies CEO Joseph de Pencier said that "Russia should be banned from next year's Winter Olympics" in PyeongChang. He added that Russia's "doping-tainted past has not been dealt with properly" by the IOC, which should have also barred all Russians from the Rio 2016 Games. De Pencier: "We can't be assured that Russian athletes would really be clean in PyeongChang and would have not profited from the years-long cheating system" (AAP, 10/12).

The World Anti-Doping Agency announced that its exec committee ratified the board membership of the Independent Testing Authority. The approved members include: Independent Chair Valérie Fourneyron, IOC representative Uğur Erdener, int'l federation representative Francesco Ricci Bitti, IOC athlete committee representative Kirsty Coventry and independent member Peijie Chen (WADA).
