Olympic Notes: British Cycling Sacks Coach Heiko Salzwedel

The man who "masterminded" the Olympic Gold Medal-winning ride of Bradley Wiggins and his team pursuit colleagues in Rio last year has been "sensationally sacked" and "made to feel like a criminal" after being escorted from the premises. Staff and riders were "left stunned" when Heiko Salzwedel, the German endurance specialist who was in his third stint at British Cycling, was "marched out of the National Cycling Centre in Manchester by security," with sources claiming he was the "victim of a rider revolt" (London DAILY MAIL, 10/12).

North Korea submitted a document to the IPC in May to apply for participation in the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, South Korea Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha said Thursday. South Korean organizers and the government are "hoping for North Korea's Olympic and Paralympic participation next year regardless of the tense situation on the Korean Peninsula" (KOREA HERALD, 10/12).

Switzerland's Federal Council
"postponed making a decision on whether to back the Sion 2026 bid for the Winter Olympics." It was expected that the government would reveal if it was prepared to offer financial support for the bid on Wednesday, but it was not confirmed (INSIDE THE GAMES, 10/12).
