Sony Pictures Networks "salvaged some pride by bagging the Cricket Australia broadcast rights" for the Indian sub-continent for the next six years, according to the HINDUSTAN TIMES. SPN, which "suffered a massive jolt" when it lost the Indian Premier League rights to Star India, "will now have the high-voltage Ashes to showcase from November." Sony had broadcast the IPL for a decade. Apart from broadcasting the Ashes, SPN will have the rights to broadcast multiple Indian tours, visits by Pakistan and South Africa and the '21-22 Ashes. Sony will also have the digital rights. SPN also acquired the media rights for women’s int'l cricket played in Australia, the Big Bash League and the Women’s Big Bash League (HINDUSTAN TIMES, 10/9). The PTI reported SPN will have "extensive access to content" from CA's archives and some original programming from the newly-created CA Productions team. SPN India CEO N.P. Singh said, "SPN is committed to redefining the sports broadcasting landscape in the Indian subcontinent by curating a multi-sport culture. Our sports network comprising 11 channels will offer something for everyone" (PTI, 10/9).
