Event Notes: India Gives Away 27,000 Tickets For Opening Games Of U17 World Cup

India gave away 27,000 tickets for the opening games of the U17 World Cup in New Delhi on Friday "in a bid to avoid the embarrassment of empty stands" when India PM Narendra Modi attended, an official said. Thousands of children filled the Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium to "boost" India's first major sporting event since the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Sales for the event have been "disappointing" (PAKISTAN TODAY, 10/7).

Chris Eubank Jr.'s knockout win over Avni Yildirim in the World Boxing Super Series on Saturday "raised the possibility of a British super-fight against George Groves" should he win his quarterfinal clash this coming weekend. There are "a number of outdoor venues in the running to host the potential clash," with Craven Cottage and Stamford Bridge "being the frontrunners" (London INDEPENDENT, 10/9).

Professional Bull Riders announced the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney will host the second leg of the inaugural PBR Global Cup from June 9-10 (PBR).

The University of Waikato is "offering student hall rooms for rent" over the weekend of the Rugby Sevens. With "most Hamilton motels near capacity" from Feb. 4-5, it "may be one of the last options left." There are 181 single-occupancy rooms at Bryant Hall and 204 at Student Village (STUFF, 10/9).
