Football Notes: FIFA Rejects FA's Appeal To Rubber-Stamp Silva's Move To Leicester City

FIFA rejected the FA's appeal to "rubber-stamp" midfielder Adrien Silva's move to Leicester City from Portuguese side Sporting. Leicester City submitted paperwork on Silva's £22M ($29.2M) switch 14 seconds too late on the Aug. 31 transfer deadline. The club will now only be able to add Silva to its playing squad "when the transfer window reopens in January" (BBC, 10/4).

UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Spartak Moscow over "alleged racist abuse" directed at Liverpool winger Bobby Adekanye. Liverpool complained to Europe's governing body after fans at the Spartak Academy "allegedly made monkey chants aimed at the 18-year-old." The case will be heard on Oct. 19 (BBC, 10/4).
