Football Notes: Real Madrid Announces Plans For Amateur Women's Team

Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez said that the club "plans to add a women's team, and added that it will be a youth team." Pérez: "The first thing we want to do is create a developmental women's team. We are not going to form a team with players from other countries, but women's football does deserve a team that will be amateur" (MARCA, 10/1).

Argentine Superliga side Newell's Old Boys agreed to make the salary payments it owes to Víctor Figueroa and other former players (CLARÍN, 9/30).

FIFA fined the German FA (DFB) 32,000 Swiss francs ($33,000) on Monday "because fans chanted Nazi slogans at a World Cup qualifying game in the Czech Republic." The range of "improper conduct" charges against Germany included fans "encroaching on the field and setting off fireworks at the game" in Prague, FIFA said. FIFA also fined the Czech Republic FA 5,000 Swiss francs ($5,150) for "crowd disorder" (AP, 10/2).

The Confederation of African Football confirmed Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia and Morocco bid to host the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN). CAF is looking for a new host to replace Kenya. The successful bid will be announced "next weekend" (BBC, 10/2).

After being stripped of the CHAN hosting rights, Kenya "will have a consolation event" after the Council of East & Central Africa FAs Exec Committee "approved the country as the 2017 Senior Challenge host." Kenya won the rights "on condition that the political climate will be conducive in the run-up to the November event where a standby host nation will be considered if the environment will not be safe" (THE STAR, 9/30).

The French Professional Football League (LFP) will "investigate the failure of a barrier" at Ligue 1 side Amiens' Stade de la Licorne during the match against Lille. Twenty-nine away supporters were "hurt as they celebrated the game's opening goal" on Saturday (BBC, 10/1).
